Voice Classes
The purpose of the Vocal Class is to develop young voices so that each student will be able to use their voice for a variety of musical endeavors with confidence and good tone quality.

* This will be accomplished by working on vocal technique (with each student practicing daily), including vocal exercises, breathing, posture, voice placement and diction.
*  Students will learn to sing as a soloist as well as part of an ensemble, and know the difference.
* Sight-singing, ear-training and basic music theory will be part of each month's lessons so that each singer is a musician who sings well. Just being a good singer is not enough, they must be trained as musicians.
*Singing music from different genres and understanding the culture out of which each arose will be part of each semester's lessons.

Tips for Success During the Class:
*  Attend every week, even if your child didn't do their home assignment!
*  Be on-time and quickly get your class materials ready.
*  Pay attention during the lesson.  Turn your cell phone off.  Take notes!

How to Support Your Child Between Classes:
*  Reinforce class material at home with regular practicing. Try for 5-6 days per week.
*  Attend a makeup class if you missed your regular class.  New concepts are introduced weekly.  You are also welcome to attend makeup classes if you and your teacher feel the extra class time would be beneficial.
*  Check the online home assignment to make sure don't miss reviewing any class concepts
*  Schedule 15-20 min regular practice times that match your family's routine: before/after school, before/after dinner, etc.
*  Short, daily practice sessions are more productive than hour- long sessions on the weekend.
*  Check the school calendar for vacation, recital, special event dates
*Communicate with your teacher via their school email: Teacher@pacificconservatory.com. They (or the office staff) will respond to all questions and comments.
*  Email or call the office if you will be absent
*  Keep track of the number of practice sessions so you can report to their teacher.
*  Attend musical events in the community. Live music of any genre is motivating and stimulating to the young child (and their parent!)
*  Never use practice time as punishment for other misdeeds.
*  Bring all your materials.  Keep books and binders in the Pacific Conservatory briefcase so it will be easy to find when it's time to leave for your lesson.

* Good choral tone and ability to sing soprano or alto parts will be taught as the classes progress and grow.
* Each student who works hard, comes regularly to class and practices at home should be able to perform solos, in a choir or ensemble, or in a musical production, and be able to sight-read at a beginning to intermediate level.
* Vocal classes are 55 minutes.  Materials include 1-2 textbooks, briefcase, binder and pencil.  Regular class & formal recital experiences help with goal setting and developing confidence.
* Parent attendance recommended for younger-aged students
* Makeup classes available
*  Highly structured, balanced curriculum
*  Online home assignments
*  Exceptionally skilled, experienced classroom teachers
* Formal recitals 3x per year
...where students of all ages reach their maximum artistic potential
in a friendly atmosphere guided by enthusiastic professionals.
